The beaches along Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway are complex and diverse, ranging from rocky coastlines to sandy white beaches. Immense sea stacks tower offshore. Tide pools abundant in brightly colored marine life dot the rocky shores of this byway.

A look to the other side of the byway brings into focus the mountain knolls and flowering alpine meadows. One of the world's only coniferous rain forests is near the highway. The world's largest specimens of western red cedar and Sitka spruce stalk the terrain, with moss hanging like drapery from their branches.

This tour takes you through some of the highlights of this byway (from east to west).

Joyce General Store: After ten miles of enjoying the scenic drive from just west of the city of Port Angeles, you'll come upon Joyce General Store, which was built in the early 1900s; it still maintains old-time charm.

Joyce Museum: Adjacent to the store is the Joyce Museum. This former railroad station displays early area history; it has general store items from the 1920s through the 1940s.

Pillar Point: Twenty miles west of there is Pillar Point, offering an imposing profile of Pillar Point and a view of the Pysht River estuary.

Clallam Bay County Park: About 15 miles west of the Point is Clallam Bay County Park, a gorgeous saltwater agate-strewn beach. You can wade and picnic here and see Seiku Point and Vancouver Island.

Lake Ozette: A few miles west of there is Hoko-Ozette Road. Take this road for about ten miles to the southwest to get to Lake Ozette, a large lake in and around which you can hike, bird-watch, and picnic.

While the coastline along Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway may be rocky and rugged, the drive itself is full of charming spots and incredible wildlife for everyone to enjoy.
